It doesn’t matter which year you are returning to, how old you are or what your subject is. There are always opportunities to get to know other students. If you are receiving a scholarship, you need to check the terms and conditions of your scholarship with the scholarship’s administrator. You will need evidence of their funding in order to register. If you have a sponsor who is supporting your studies, you need to make them aware that you are resuming your studies and check their terms and conditions. You may be liable for your own tuition fees if you have not made an application for funding prior to your return to study. If you are entitled to UK undergraduate funding through Student Finance England, your entitlement may have been affected by your period of intermission so it’s important to check. If you have an existing debt to our University, you will not be allowed to register until it is cleared. If you took a break from studies for financial reasons, it may be a good idea to seek financial advice before you return. You should make sure that your funding is in place for your return to study. So we recommend that you start some reading before you come back to help get you up to speed. Students who have returned to study from a period of intermission have told us that they found it useful to do some pre-reading. If you haven’t already done so, you should contact your supervisor to arrange a first meeting and to discuss how you will pick up your research. You might like to contact your graduate administrator, to see whether there have been any changes in your school, department or centre. You should contact your department, school or centre to find out what steps you may need to take in preparation for your return. If you are unsure about what to read, check out your department’s website. So we recommend that you start some course reading before you come back to help you get up to speed. When you return to our University, you can access online and face-to-face study and academic skills support. An email will be sent to your Essex account when eNROL opens but you can also logon to the system using your Essex account username and password to find out when this is scheduled to be. eNROL allows you to select your module choices in a secure web environment. You will be able to choose your optional modules ready for your return to study by using the online module enrolment system eNROL, which you may have used last year.
